Singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat and Australian pro surfer Ellie-Jean Coffey got onboard for the Billabong Pro, Tahiti. The Men’s ASP World Tour competed at Teahupo’o, a unique venue on the world surfing tour circuit. While many professional surfing contests resemble a circus with tents erected across the sand and packed crowds, the Billabong Pro, Tahiti involves only a limited amount of lucky spectators who view the event from boats and watercrafts only meters away from the heavy waves and world-class competitors.
Two-time Grammy award winner Caillat grew up near the beach in Southern California and traveled to Tahiti to perform in the opening ceremony of the Billabong Pro. She teamed up with Ellie-Jean to explore Polynesia, kicking off the trip with a casual swim with sharks on the neighboring island of Moorea.
“It was a cool feeling to see how far music can travel,” Caillat said. “These people knew my music and were singing it back to me. It was really a nice feeling.”
