Competitors of the SeaHawaii Womens Pro at Pipeline faced challenging conditions on the final day of the contest as the event was called ON for the last day of the holding period.

Surfers paddled out in 4-6 foot Hawaiian scale waves at Pipeline on the north shore of O’ahu with winds coming in from all directions and ripping currents. Large sets rolling through kept all eyes on the horizon. But surfers maintained focus and completed the ASP 1 Star women’s event, with competitors as young as 12 years old.

“We were very lucky that we were able to finish the contest due to the crazy stormy conditions. Thanks to the water patrol, Aloha Lifesaving, they made this contest happen giving rides to the ladies out to the lineup between each heat.” Contest Director Betty Depolito said.

SeaHawaii is an environmentally based group that aims to bring awareness of the sensitivity of the environment and ecological changes to our oceans.
